Memorial Day 2009
WOW! We had a great weekend at RCRV the weather could not have been better almost no rain and low 80's. The pool opened Saturday at noon and got broken in good for the rest of the weekend. RCRV was packed with every site filled this weekend. We enjoyed a great barbeque on Saturday cooked by Tim Clark. Then Saturday evening campers enjoyed the movie "Mall Cop" in the activity center. An informal jam session with Uncle Gerald turned into a concert with a lot of campers turnign out to listen to almost 4 hours of music, what a fun. Sunday night we had ice cream in the activity center and had a blast with Karoke, we found Elvis! he has been living as Sammy Martin. I think we will defintely do more Karoke this summer. I cant wait to get the Wii on the big projector screen and do some bowling. I want to thank everyone who stayed this weekend our guests were great, I think we have the best campers at RCRV.

Mothers Day
We had a great weekend at RCRV, we were packed with campers this weekend. The weather was great for camping. We had a tractor ride and then the kids made a book mark for mom in the activity center. Some of our guests enjoyed the movie "Cheaper by the Dozen" Saturday night, a great MOM story. We hope to have the improved WIFI service installed in the next few weeks so every site will get improved service. RCRV is really starting to take off and it seems to get better every week. I really like the family atmosphere that we have now.

Summer Like Weekend!
The weather was great this weekend, high 80's in April? are you kidding. We had several families enjoying the warm weather. Saturday we enjoyed a tractor ride, flashlight hike and campfire smores. I played the guitar and sang at the campfire, the entertainment wasnt good but it was cheap!
Sunday we kinda took the day off and went to the lake. We rode the SeaDoos all the way up the lake 17 miles and back. We had a picnic lunch on the shore as well. It was a relaxing. We signed up several more monthly campers and the park is filling up fast, as of this morning we only had 2 sites left for Memorial Day, and about half of the sites are gone for June. Please dont hesitate to call us though as we still have plenty of sites available for the rest of the summer.
Oh yea the fish are biting Rex caught 30 crappie Saturday and feed us all fresh fish that night. Bring your boat and get out there to catch some fish!

RCRV Easter

We had our Easter activites a week late. We had a great turn out for the easter egg hunt and some other fun relays. Then everyone went on a tractor ride around the park. We introuduced our new activity center building with great game of Bingo Saturday night which everyone enjoyed, lots of winners!! This building will see a lot of action with bingo, music, movies, video games and cookouts this summer!!! We are really happy with the way the park looks now and we plan to continue to improve it as time goes on. The only down side to the weekend was that i almost burned my grill up Sunday morning, here is my tip of the week, clean all the gunk from last year out of the bottom of your grill this spring.

First Weekend of the Camping Year
We finally made time to camp ourselves. We stayed all weekend at RCRV, saturday was busy with final cleaning, site prep., and more mulch. We are very proud of how the campground looks now. The new grass is growing like crazy with all the rain. We had pork tenderloin on the grill Friday night. If you have not tried this on the grill you need to. Wal Mart and Food Lion have them packaged in a vacum bag with seasoning. Just wrap them in Alum. foil pour some BBQ sauce on and cook 20 min, then turn for 10 min. Slice and add ore BBQ! you will love it. Easter weekend will be slow as we have not planned any activities, this will allow us to be with our families. The next weekend will be full of easter activities. Our next planned trip is to Pochantas SP, next week for spring break. We are going to get our daughter some fastpitch lessons from a coach in Richmond. We will also do some sight seeing in Richmond I hope. We are looking forward to getting the season rolling in full swing inthe next few weeks, so get hooked up and come on out to RCRV and give us a try.

We are Open!
With spring coming we are open. There is still lots to do but the campground is open. This past weekend in the rain we had 6 campers full with campfires going. They did not let the rain ruin there spring camping. This weekend will be the official welcome back weekend with coffee and doughnuts and bingo. We have installed new landscaping and lighting around the office. The pool is being cleaned and we are almost ready to open the new activity center. All in all we are excited about what the season has to offer. It will be busy for us and we hope our campers will enjoy the activities. We still have space for the welcome back weekend and Easter so call us soon and come enjoy a relaxing weekend at RCRV.

Bye Bye Carpet!
If you have ever camped with us I know you have adored our wonderful Mauve carpet in the game room. We finally took the time to get it torn out this weekend. We will be replacing it with a nice epoxy finish that will be easier on maintenance. We have added a 52" projection tv to the day room for all the campers to enjoy. This weekend was wonderful at RCRV, but the melting snow left everwhere extremely soggy so we had to stay off any areas that were not gravel. My big project has been to restore our 1948 Ford 8N that belonged to my dad. I am almost done and i am really proud of the way it turned out. We will be using it for some hay rides this summer. We hope to get some landscaping and seeding done this week as well as new stone on the roads.

Almost ready!
We have been working for the past month to do our annual celanup and improvements. The campground is looking better than it ever has. We have added rock outlines to most sites to make them look better. We re-graded the entrance road this weekend to improve the slope as the enter the curve in the camping area. Landscaping is scheduled for this weekend, weather permitting. An new big kid swing set is planned as well as the new activity center. We will open March 6 and plan to have all the improvements done by the end of March. We are very excited about this year and think it will be the best year since we started RCRV. If you have stayed with us before, I want to encourage to you come back and see if you like the improvements. Cant wait for warm weather to get here and get some campers roasting marshmellows.

Spring is Coming!
We have started our spring cleaing and up-grades at Running Cedar. We have big plans for this years activities and we think it will be a fun season full of stuff to do. We worked all weekend on the camp sites. We added a back stop to some and started lining the sides with stones to give each site a better difinition. They look really good. We added a new door to the playground side of the bath house, so no more walking around the building in the dark. Speaking of walking in the dark, we added new lights to each side of the clubhouse. Look for lots of new landscaping too.
Our biggest plans for this season is to convert our sotrage building into an indoor activity center for things like music, bingo and Friday night movies!! I think it will be a great place for all those activities. We will continue to get the campground ready for our opening in March. If you are thinking of a seasonal lease call us early because there is a limited supply of seasonal sites.

Cold, Cold, Cold!

We did it again! Another night of primative winter camping. This time most all the cousins went. Six kids between 8 and 15, with Rex, Jay, and myself. We arrived around noon on Satruday and set up camp. We went on a 2 mile hike up the Stinking River and back, it was a very nice hike through the woods. The Stinking River takes its name from the turn of the century when a tannery operated up stream and all sorts of gross stuff got pitched into the river, but it does not stink now and is actually very pretty. We then took some time to target shoot with the 22's and some skeet shooting. It was Abbie's first time shooting and she put 12 out of 12 in the target wtih the 22. The boys and I went hunting for squirrel till around dark, while Jay and Rex prepared camp. We cooked hamburgers and baked potatoes over the fire for supper.
Later that night we had 3 campfires, the younger kids had thiers, the teenagers had thiers, and then we had the main fire. The temperature when we called it a night was a cool 34, I was itching to see how our new 0 degree sleeping bags would perform. We slept pretty good as the temps. keep dropping to 24 when we woke up. Rex's equipment was not quite ready and he got pretty cold in a sleeping bad that woudl not zip up. We re-built the nights campfire and cooked bacon, eggs, and potatoes over the fire again take a look at Jays improvised camp stove set up.

Breakfast was good, but it was so cold the soft drinks would freeze when opened. No need for a cooler at all! I will post some more pics. in my album later. Winter camping is a challenge no doubt, but when its all said and done I feel a sense of accomplishment, in that we made it. We may try one more trip before the weather warms up enough to de-winterize the RV and get back to luxury camping! I will post some more pics in my album later.
